Boyd ISD is committed to providing the best quality instructional opportunities for all students. Substitute teachers provide an important service to the school district and the students. To support this philosophy, BISD feels it is important for non-professional employees to fully understand their role as a temporary replacement for the certified teacher in the classroom setting. In order to qualify for approval as a substitute teacher with the Boyd Independent School District, an applicant must:
-
Preferable – be certified as a teacher or hold a bachelor’ degree; Minimal – be a high school graduate or possess a Certificate of High School Equivalency (GED);
-
21 years of age and or 60 college credit hours
-
be a dependable employee
-
be able to fluently use oral and written English skills;
-
have the ability to understand and respond to the needs of children at all ages; and
-
meet additional pre-requisites to the above qualifications, as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable for the position
-
Subject to passing a criminal history check.
Boyd ISD will pay substitute teachers as follows:
Payperiod:
Checks are out on the 20th of the month. The payperiod covers the previous month's hours from the 1st to the last day.
A workshop is offered once a year in August. Please contact Charlene Wilson at 940-433-9500 for exact date and time of the workshop.
Certified teachers are not required to attend this workshop, but must complete the application process for substitute teaching. Priority for hiring will be given to certified teachers and substitute teachers who complete this training. Individuals will be added to the Substitute Teaching List throughout the year, but will be expected to complete the SUBSTITUTE TEACHER TRAINING WORKSHOP at the next available scheduled training date. Individual names will be removed from the list if training is not completed at the next offered workshop date.
New applicants will need to bring copies of their resume; college transcript (if applicable), high school transcript or GED certificate; driver’s license; Social Security card; and a voided personal check or deposit slip from an active bank account (all payroll payments are automatically deposited in an active checking account-no individual checks are processed to pay employees). Substitute teachers, new to the District, may also complete a District application after the workshop-provided they bring the documentation above. Individuals, who were on the approved Substitute Teaching list from last year and have already completed training previously, do not need to re-apply; but must update your file if any information has changed.
