What is happening in Language Arts?

In 4th grade, we spend a lot of time writing!  4th graders take a Writing TAKS, so we will be working really hard to prepare for that.  Just like reading, we will be working on specific writing and grammar skills each 6 weeks, and that looks like the following:
 
First 6 Weeks: Persuasive Writing
                       spelling, capitalization, punctuation, English usage rules,
                       and sentence structure
 
Second 6 Weeks: Expository Writing
                            continue with rules of capitalization, puctuation, English usage,
                            and sentence structure
 
Third 6 Weeks: Personal Narratives
                         Conventions of English (mechanics)
 
Fourth 6 Weeks: Personal Narratives
                           TAKS skills
 
Fifth 6 Weeks: REVIEW writing skills
                        vocabulary
 
Sixth 6 Weeks: Compare and Contrast Writing
                         vocabulary
