Carter receives grant
BMS Art teacher Lydia Carter received a grant from the Boyd Education Foundation at the Sweet Rewards grant ceremony Friday, May 3. Carter's $933.36 grant will fund the Rockin' Art project. The funds will purchase Photoshop Elements 11 licenses for a computer lab. The project will focus on the creation of ablum covers, from thumbnail sketches, on to digital illustration in the program
The Sweet Rewards grant ceremony celebrated the first grants issued by the Boyd Education Foundation. The foundation will annually give funds to teachers who write grants for innovative teaching programs that the school budget cannot fund.
Twenty six Boyd Middle and Intermediate School girls went to “The Esther Experience” Sunday, May 5. “The Esther Experience” centered around the story of Esther, who was a Jewish woman of faith and character.
The dynamic experience included guest speakers Jeffrey Dean and Deborah King, as well as testimonies from several teens, both local and from other regions. Jeffrey Dean hosted a panel discussion with three local young men. The men were asked previously recorded questions that the young ladies attending wanted to know. An elegant dinner was served next. Each young lady was seated by a gentleman before the delicious meal began. The meal included a full course dinner where they were given step by step table etiquette procedures.
This was an afternoon full of fun, lessons to live by, and activities that reinforced the idea that each girl is beautiful, unique, and has a purpose.
Thank you, parents, for allowing you children to be a part of “The Esther Experience.” Thank you to WCPC of Wise County for providing this experience for Wise County teenage girls. A special thank goes out to Mr. West for allowing bus transportation and another special thank you goes to Robin Cathey, who gave her personal time to drive the bus to and from this event. What a blessing it is to be a part of Boyd ISD!
"Quién tiene?" ( who has...?)
Learning to speak Spanish is one of the goals of a first year Spanish student. To reinforce vocabulary and speaking and listening skills, Mr. Domasig’s Spanish I classes play “Quien tiene?”
The first person asks “quién tiene (some word in Spanish)? The person who has that word in English then says "yo tengo (corresponding word in English),” then they ask "Quién tiene (a different vocabulary word in Spanish). The game is played all the way through until the first person answers the last "quién tiene?" question by answering "yo tengo (word in English).”
Mr. Domasig also times the game to see which of his classes finish in the best time.
“Students are in competition against all other classes, including my high school class. The one that completes the game correctly in the fastest time wins,” Domasig said. “Since it’s competitive, the students try to say their response quickly. This encourages speaking quickly, which would be more up to speed to that of a native speaker.”
